MAV "The Blanche" Tool Kit

Ambrosia Maple

The other-worldly figure found in The Blanche is the result of a love story.

A small insect called an Ambrosia Beetle burrows its way into the wood of the Sugar Maple, where it actually cultivates a type of fungus to feed upon. The fungus then works its way up the tree by means of capillary action, in the same way water is drawn up from the roots to the branches.

After being harvested, the wood from the Ambrosia Maple is then dried in hot kilns for several days, which forces any beetles to abandon their host trees and neutralizes the remaining fungus.

Each piece is hand crafted, hand sanded up to a fine finish, and coated with a blend of beeswax and orange oil to  protect and bring out the NATURAL beauty of the wood.
